Report: Wii Exceeds 8 Million In Japan

The Nintendo Wii has surpassed the eight million unit sales mark in Japan, according to Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, with Wii Sports leading life-to-date software sales, as of April 19.
The Nintendo Wii has surpassed the eight million unit sales mark in Japan since the console's December 2 launch in the region, according to Famitsu publisher Enterbrain. Despite the console being the current market leader, bolstered by continuing strong sales in Western territories, the Wii has shown signs of slowing in its homeland Japan. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said earlier this month, "The Wii is in the most unhealthy condition since it hit the Japanese market." In late March, Iwata said the console had sold 50 million units worldwide. Famitsu also revealed the latest top five Wii software titles in Japan by life-to-date sales -- a list occupied only by Nintendo first-party titles (translation by Kotaku): Note: Wii Sports was not bundled with Japanese hardware. 1. Wii Sports - 3.5 million units 2. Wii Fit - 3.3 million units 3. Wii Play - 2.7 million units 4. Mario Kart Wii - 2.2 million units 5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 1.8 million
