Activision has revealed a June 3 launch date for the next
Modern Warfare 2 map pack, the second in a pair developed by Infinity Ward -- and the last known deliverable from the studio related to the
Call of Duty franchise.
The five-map package is titled
Resurgence, and like its sales smash
Stimulus Package, it will enjoy a period of Xbox Live exclusivity.
Stimulus Package, priced at $15,
sold 1 million units on Xbox Live on day one, and over 2.5 million in its first week.
Signal Hill analyst Todd Greenwald recently estimated that
Stimulus Package's 2.5 map packs equated to $26 million in net revenue and about $11 million in operating income for Activision. CEO Bobby Kotick, stressing the importance of DLC to the company's revenue strategy,
recently said close to 17 million map packs for
Call of Duty games have been sold to date -- and that's not including
Stimnulus Package.
Greenwald called the consumer response to
Stimulus Package "overwhelming", and suggested that
Modern Warfare 2 DLC
could move 10 million units altogether by the end of this year. However, the analyst based his estimate on a prediction that the second
Modern Warfare 2 content pack would not launch until the fall.
