Rumors that Sega canceled Obsidian Entertainment's RPG based on the
Aliens film appear to be confirmed via a professional networking profile from a former employee of the company.
The employee titles himself as an "Ex-Designer for Obsidian Entertainment," and lists the "canceled third-person action Aliens RPG (Xbox 360, PS3, & PC)" among his work experience.
Earlier this month, consumer weblog Kotaku reported rumors of
layoffs at the developer as the in-development RPG was canned -- right after Sega
announced it would publish a new
Aliens vs. Predator game from developer Rebellion.
With the announcement of the Rebellion title, Sega confirmed it was "strategically updating" the release timing of other Aliens franchise games in its portfolio. Sega gained the license to the franchise through a 2006 deal with 20th Century Fox, and announced the Obsidian title shortly thereafter.
