A pair of online sources suggest that Team Ico's critically-acclaimed PS2 games,
Ico and
Shadow of the Colossus, will be re-released as a bundled PlayStation 3 retail collection early next year.
A listing on Wal-mart.com, which surfaced on the site Saturday, shows "ICO / Shadow of the Colossus (PS3)" available for pre-order at $39.82. The site lists a planned release of April 1st, 2011 for the collection.
Eurogamer today
cites unnamed "industry sources" in reporting the British version of the rumored collection will cost £24.99 and hit stores in March or April of next year.
The Eurogamer report also suggests the game will be available for UK pre-order in "the next few days." This timing points to a potential formal announcement for the game at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place September 16th through 19th.
This is not the first time a PS3 re-release for these two games has been suggested. Team Ico head Fumito Ueda said in multiple interviews surrounding last year's Tokyo Game Show that he would be open to re-releases that would "provide the games to other platforms to reach more users."
More recently, a presentation by Ueda at the CESA Developers Conference on September 1st showed images from Ico with much sharper textures and a wider aspect ratio than the original PS2 release, suggesting an HD-capable version may be in the works.
Sony released HD-enhanced versions the two PS2
God of War games in the PS3's
God of War Collection last November. The game
sold 650,000 copies in the U.S. through March of this year, before the release of
God of War III pushed it off the monthly top 20 sellers.
Team Ico's latest project, The Last Guardian, hasn't been seen since E3 2009, when an four-and-a-half-minute trailer of the game was shown at Sony's pre-show press conference.
