Enterbrain: Wii Outsells PlayStation 3 In Japan Sixfold

According to the latest sales data from Japanese magazine publisher and research agency Enterbrain, the Wii increased its sales lead over the PlayStation 3 during June to a ratio of 6:1 in Japan, with total sales of 270,974 consoles compared to 41,628.
According to the latest sales data from Japanese magazine publisher and research agency Enterbrain, via a new Reuters report, the Wii increased its Japanese sales lead over the PlayStation 3 during June to a ratio of over 6:1, with total sales of 270,974 consoles to 41,628. The Wii has been supply-constrained in Japan (and much of the rest of the world) since launch, as evidenced by weekly Media Create hardware sales figures which show remarkably consistent figures from week to week - of around 65,000 units. The Wii was outselling the PlayStation 3 by 4:1 in April, which then increased by 5:1 in May. Comparisons with the Xbox 360 are even more unfavorable, with Microsoft’s console selling only 17,616 units in total during June, despite relative success with software titles such as Forza Motorsport 2 and Trusty Bell (aka Eternal Sonata). The PlayStation 3 has also found its recent Japanese hardware sales largely unaffected by hits such as the recent Ninja Gaiden Sigma and FolksSoul (aka Folklore). Ultimately, the only console to rival the Wii’s performance has been the Nintendo DS, which itself outsells the Wii by a factor of around 2:1 each week, according to Media Create figures.
