DS Completes Golden Week Home Run In Japan

Weekly hardware sales in Japan have seen the DS increase its dominance still further with almost 300,000 units sold during the important Golden Week series of holidays, as Wii sales also held above 100,000, and the PS3 again dipped below the PS2.
Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan, for the week ending June 6th, following details of the software top thirty yesterday. The results cover the reminder of the Japanese Golden Week series of holidays, with hardware sales expectedly up in what is one of the most important weeks in the Japanese retail calendar. Total sales for the Nintendo DS rose even higher than the previous week, up by almost 30,000 units to 285,192. Wii sales were largely static, as a resulted of continued stock problems for the console, with a total down by just over 1,000 units to a new total of 101,320. PSP sales were up by almost the same amount, for a total of 35,172 units. Despite only four software titles in the top fifty PlayStation 2 sales overtook that of the PlayStation 3, with a rise of over 2,000 units to 14,815 sold overall. PlayStation 3 sales rose by only 183 units this week, to a total of 12,974 – with no games registering in the top fifty for the third week running. The Xbox 360 also had no entries in the software top fifty, with near identical sales to the previous week at 3,205 units. The Game Boy Advance family of consoles saw sales fall to just 653 units, down by almost 500, while the GameCube increased its sales by over 200 to a weekly total of 394.
