The Entertainment Software Ratings Board has announced a new public awareness campaign to highlight its game ratings system in conjunction with Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.
The new campaign encourages parents to ensure video games are appropriate for children by checking game ratings before making a purchase. The ESRB has recently announced state-wide awareness campaigns in the states of Delaware and Oklahoma. Those campaigns are comprised of radio broadcast announcements, ratings education billboards and mall kiosk displays.
The ESRB also cited stats from the Federal Trade Commission that state nine in ten parents are aware of the ESRB ratings, 87 percent expressed satisfaction with them, and nearly three quarters regularly use the ratings when choosing games for their children.
Said Attorney General Abbott, "Parents must play an active, informed role in their children’s lives, and choosing video games is no differen. ESRB ratings are an effective and informative resource that allows parents to evaluate whether video game content is appropriate for their child.”
