Child's Play Charity Raises Over $1 Million

The Child's Play charity, which benefits video game and toy drives for children's hospitals, has raised $1 million dollars thus far this year, according to the event organizers, and its recent Seattle charity dinner contributed $200,000.
The Child's Play charity, which benefits video game and toy drives for children's hospitals, has raised $1 million dollars thus far this year. "What could I possibly say that this weird, almost stupidly large number does not communicate?" says Jerry "Tycho" Holkins of the popular Penny Arcade webcomic, who with his cohort Mike "Gabe" Krahulik founded the charity in 2003. The charity's official site pegs the exact value of donations thus far at $1,070,000. Via Amazon, users can buy and donate items on the wishlist of their nearest participating hospital, or make cash donations directly via Amazon. Child's Play's official site says that its annual charity dinner auction played a role in boosting the funds over $1 million, raising $200,000 at a formal dinner in Seattle attended by over 400 gamers and industry leaders. The organizers also note that Harmonix donated all of the proceeds of a special pack of Rock Band songs sold at this year's Penny Arcade Expo. The "PAX Pack" remains available, and proceeds will continue to support the charity.
