The organizers of Games Convention have announced that 2008's European games industry event will kick off on August 20th with a performance from Video Games Live, a concert series featuring game music.
The Video Games Live concert will be presented at the Arena Leipzig, and the organizers anticipate some 6,000 attendees. Conductor Jack Wall will lead the orchestra, and 21-year old American pianist Martin Leung will play classic video game themes.
Concurrent with the musical performance, scenes from various games will be projected on a large screen, aiming for "a multimedia time journey through the world of games."
2008 will be the final year that Games Convention is presented in Leipzig under the current format; the organizers
recently announced that beginning 2009, the conference will be renamed GamesCOM for a September date in Cologne.
GC project director Peggy Schönbeck commented, "I am delighted that with Video Games Live, we have been able to bring one of the internationally most successful game music events to Leipzig. The combination of classical music and interactive elements makes it an ideal prelude to Europe's biggest games festival."
