Hello!

My name is Petter and I’m the Art Director at Lone Hero Studios. We are a three-people team from Sweden. This is our first dev journal and here we are going to share what we are working on and the progress we are making.

Anyway, today I want to introduce our new game!

The game is currently in development and we still don’t have a name for it, but the project name is Warrior’s Journey. This will definitely change though.

So what is Warrior’s Journey? It’s a single-player action-adventure game set in a world inspired by Japanese mythology. You will follow a warrior (‘s journey, hint hint) through fights against imposing enemies with focus on one-on-one battles. We want to make a game that will show both the character’s and the player’s growth throughout the game and to visualize this in different ways.

Right now we are also slowly but steadily creating the fundamental building blocks, iterating on the art style and also making great progress building and polishing on the combat system (follow @Yoshida_Jiro for more of that). We will cover this in future dev journals so we can show you how the game changes as new things are added.

We know what game we want to make, but we don’t know what we will find during the development. We know from experience that a lot of features can be based on happy accidents and discoveries throughout the course of making the game.

This fog effect, for example, was just something we were trying out for fun. We then put it in the game and really liked it.

We continued to work on it and combining it with gameplay and this is how it looks now.

We’ll continue to post and share what we are doing on social media, so make sure to follow us at @loneherostudios on Twitter! In the next dev journal we will dig deeper into the art style, where we are now and what lies in the future.

See you next time!
