Developer Diary #4: Character Design Part 1

Hi, my name is Jonathan and I am the artist working on our adventure game “New School Blues”.  My job is to design and create all of the art assets, interface, and animations in the game.  My first task was to design the characters, and fortunately the design doc already had descriptions of the four characters’ personalities and some visual reference to give me a jumping off point.

Character Silhouettes

The first step was to generate a large number of silhouettes.  The idea behind this process is to be very loose and free with each drawing so that unique and interesting shapes come out of the accidents. The goal is to create many pages of silhouettes quickly and choose the few best for further development.

Can you guess which ones made the cut?  You’ll see later on this month…

The next step will be detailed in part 2 tomorrow, thanks for reading!
