Capcom revealed Resident Evil Village sales have now topped 10 million sales. As of March 31, 2024, it's the fastest-selling title across the survival horror franchise to reach this milestone.

Village released back in 2021, and around this time last year, sold 8 million copies. A version of the game with all the DLC bundled in released the following year, and it came to iPhone and PlayStation VR2 in 2023.

Per Capcom, Village has been selling an additional two million units per year post-launch and "continues to gain new users." Along with good word of mouth, the game (and the entire series) tends to go on sale on a consistent basis.

Resident Evil's sales are infectious

For further comparison, Village's new milestone now puts it ahead of Resident Evil 4's 2023 remake, which hit seven million by the March 31 date. The remake for Resident Evil 2 also took a little over three years to sell 10 million copies.

Overall, and per Capcom's financials back in May, the Resident Evil series collectively sold 36.29 million copies by March 31, 2024.

Resident Evil has been a reliable franchise for Capcom, alongside the likes of Street Fighter. Both series received new entries last year with the aforementioned remake and Street Fighter 6.

So good were Capcom's financials this past year that it raised both its revenue projections and its salary for graduate hires. Both decisions were spurred by the success of those games, along with others like Dragon's Dogma II.
