Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from September 23th, 2010, find Civilization V going up against Halo: Reach in North America, while Formula 1 2010 and Pokemon Black and White sell big in other regions. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. Square Enix's MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV also sees an impressive first week, while a recent price drop at Amazon puts Sony's Heavy Rain ahead of Starcraft II in daily sales. Nintendo's Pokemon sequels Pocket Monsters Black and White lead cross-platform sales in Japan, meanwhile, as multiple versions of Codemasters' racing sim Formula 1 2010 capture chart spots in the UK. Nintendo Wii North America: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. WipeOut: The Game (Activision), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 5. Amazon discounts put Heavy Rain and Katamari Forever at the top of the PlayStation 3 software sales charts in the United States. Formula 1 2010 also claims a chart spot in the domestic charts this week, while Atlus's 3D Dot Game Heroes returns at fifth place following a major software update. Capcom's BioHazard 5 (Resident Evil 5) shoots to the top of Japan's chart with the release of the PlayStation Move peripheral, as a number of Move-compatible titles including Sports Champions, R.U.S.E., and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 are among the week's biggest sellers in the UK.
