Playstation 2 Quality Concerns in Europe

A consumer protection program in the United Kingdom is spotlighting quality problems with Sony’s Playstation 2.

According to reports from the BBC’s Weekend Watchdog program and the Sun newspaper, Sony received nearly 2000 complaints on Christmas day involving disc drawer failures, loss of power, lasers not reading discs and dual controls not working. Though Sony has denied any major problems, the Sun report quotes from an internal Sony memo in which the company acknowledges, “We know a lot of our units are not up to consumer standards.”
