nPower Software announced Power Solids, a new plug-in for 3ds max that lets 3ds max model NURBS-based non-manifold Boundary Representations (BREPs). nPower claims that Power Solids can generate a NURBS display without polygonal artifacts, and can create geometry via extrusions, revolutions, sweeps, lofts, fillets, shelling, offsets and Boolean operations, all of which can be fully animated. Power Solids provides the following features:

  • Imports IGES, STEP, SAT, and Rhino solids and trimmed surfaces into precise BREPs.

    • Lets you view dependent tesselation for better image quality

    • Precise NURBS Booleans

    • Better performance on complex objects

    • Solids-based filleting, shelling and offsetting

    • Construction operations

    • The ability to animate all operations Power Solids sells for $495, and there is an introductory offer to get it for $350. A free six-day evaluation copy can be downloaded at www.nPowerSoftware.com.
