The excitement of the ongoing Tokyo Game Show hasn’t helped retail sales in Japan, with figures down again from last week at the traditionally quiet end of summer. Total sales were just 52 percent of the weekly average, with only one full price new entry in the top 10. Top-rated game Fighting for One Piece, based on the popular manga franchise, managed only 32,011 unit sales, even though it’s in the best-selling slot. The budget priced re-releases of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix and Final Fantasy X totaled just 10,741 and 9,565 sales, respectively. Japanese consumers and analysts expect that the generally good results seen previously in the year will return in the coming weeks. Unlike last week, hardware sales were also down markedly. The PSP gained a small amount of ground on the Nintendo DS, which saw a 44.12 percent market share with 47,239 units sold. The PlayStation 2 was next with a 24.43 percent market share and 26,156 sales, followed by the PSP with a 20.67 percent share and 22,133 sales. This was followed by the Game Boy Advance at 8.87 percent, the GameCube at 1.80 percent and the Xbox at 0.11 percent.
