The International Game Developers Association has launched a new Healthcare Program, through which its member developers can gain access to health insurance at a group rate. Beginning in January 2010, IGDA members can talk with an account executive from Association Health Programs, who will help them choose a plan; members will still have to pay for insurance, but as a member of the group, will be able to purchase it at a lower rate than they would as an individual. "We are probably best known for providing a framework for networking and knowledge sharing through local chapter events and industry events like the IGDA Leadership Forum," writes the IGDA board of directors on the Association's official blog. "However, as a professional association, it’s also incumbent upon us to support the community in direct, practical ways too, especially as we all work through this economic downturn." Any IGDA member in good standing is eligible for the program, and membership dues will not change as a result of participation in the program. "Our main focus has been, and will continue to be, on empowering and improving the professional advancement of you, the game developer," says the IGDA. "We expect that the IGDA HP will be an effective example of this core goal, and we look forward to sharing a toast when we see you at the next IGDA event."
