Namco Bandai’s latest use of the popular Gundam anime license has seen the franchise claim yet another number one in Japan, with SD Gundam G Generation: Cross Drive on the Nintendo DS. Following a delay in the reporting of results for the week ending August 12th, as the result of a national holiday, the game topped the charts with almost 138,000 unit sales. In a solid week of sales, Mario Party 8 on the Wii hung on to the number two spot for the second week, with its third consecutive week of sales above 100,000 units. The second highest new entry of the week, with almost 46,000 unit sales, was Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System on the PlayStation 2. The release is a revamped version of the original game incorporating content created for the Western versions and a new job system. The third highest new entry was Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber at number four, with just over 45,500 unit sales. The game is a semi-sequel to the Game Boy Advance title DK: King of Swing, which proved much more popular in Japan than in the West. The final new entry in the top ten is the first PSP entry in the Wild ARMs role-playing game franchise, with almost 32,000 unit sales at number seven. The game is one of only three PSP titles in the top fifty, with Minna no Golf 5 (aka Hot Shots Golf 5) the only PlayStation 3 title in the top fifty and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion at number forty-seven the only Xbox 360 title. Hardware sales for the week have also been announced, with Nintendo DS sales up more than 11,000 units to 147,205. Wii sales rose by over 3,500 units to 65,120, while the PSP was down by almost 2,000 units to 32,147. The PlayStation 3 fell by 3,000 units to 21,321 but kept ahead of the PlayStation 2, which saw sales almost static at 12,545 units. The Xbox 360 continued to fall by around 500 units to 2,112, while the Game Boy Advance family of console fell slightly to 520 units and the GameCube rose to 131 units.
