GDC London Adds Cell, DirectX Tutorials
The organizers of the Game Developers Conference London event to be held this October have announced the major tutorials for the event, with IBM discussing the Cell processor and Nvidia and Microsoft teaming to discuss DirectX 10.
The CMP Game Group, which also produces the Game Developers Conference and operates Gamasutra, has announced the major tutorials for its GDC London event this October, with IBM discussing the Cell processor and Nvidia and Microsoft teaming to discuss DirectX 10. IBM's tutorial, to be given on Monday, October 2, is entitled 'Delivering a World of Choice with Cell Broadband Engine Application Processing', and has a detailed description on the official GDC London website. Similarly, Nvidia and Microsoft's tutorial, which is held on Tuesday, October 3, has a number of in-depth sessions for developers on DirectX 10, including 'Gloopy Effects with DX10', 'The DX10 Cloning Factory', as well as a talk on the Windows Vista Game Explorer. Separate tutorial passes need to be purchased to attend these events. GDC London itself will focus exclusively on advanced techniques in game development, with a special focus on the UK, and will take place October 2-4 at 195 Piccadilly, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) headquarters. Major speakers include LucasArts' Chris Williams, talking on 'Unlearn What You Have Learned: Implementing Next-Gen Gameplay', Nina Kristensen and other members of Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword) on 'Combat: The Ninja Way', Midway's Harvey Smith on 'The Imago Effect: Avatar Psychology', and Michael Khaimzon of Crytek (Crysis) on 'High-Def Outdoor Environments'.
