EA's Scrabble Tops Amazon's Kindle Bestseller List

One week after its release, Electronic Arts' Scrabble has risen to the top of Amazon's list of top-selling content for the Kindle. The title, the first interactive application offered for Amazon's e-book reader by a major game publisher, is currently outselling every book on Amazon's digital store, as listed on Amazon's Bestseller's Page. In addition, Amazon-created word scramble games Every Word and Shuffled Row currently sit at first and fourth place, respectively, on Amazon's list of popular free Kindle downloads, suggesting that users are interested in using the device for gaming purposes. Retailing for $4.99, the Kindle version of Scrabble offers a single player game against the Kindle's AI as well as play-and-pass support for two players and a "Best Word" feature that automatically makes the highest scoring play available. The Kindle's slow-to-refresh e-ink display isn't well suited to games with fast movement or heavy action, but versions of slower-paced card and puzzle games such as Solitaire, Sudoku and Towers of Hanoi are already available on the device. iPhone and iPad versions of Scrabble are constant features on Gamasutra's lists of the top selling and grossing iTunes game Apps, forming one of the cornerstones of EA's mobile division.
