Officials from Bethesda Softworks announced that the company has signed all five actors who portrayed captains in each of Paramount's Star Trek television series, including William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew. Each actor will lend his or her distinctive voice to the upcoming Xbox 360 and PC title, Star Trek: Legacy, which is expected to ship this fall alongside the franchise's 40th anniversary. Star Trek: Legacy has the player taking up the role of the Admiral of a task force of warships, which must be controlled in both small and large scale battles. The game will feature over 60 ships from the Star Trek universe, as well as full damage modeling, a single-player campaign, and online multiplayer support. The game will span the entire Star Trek cannon, including the original series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise eras. Bethesda, which acquired the rights to make games based on the Star Trek license in January, also recently announced that series writer Dorothy “D.C.” Fontana, along with her partner, Derek Chester, are writing the game's script. The pair are also collaborating on another Bethesda title, Star Trek: Tactical Assault, which will ship this fall for the Nintendo DS and PSP. "I am delighted to have the chance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek with my fellow captains by providing our voices to Star Trek: Legacy," said Shatner. "Bethesda Softworks has done an excellent job in creating an exciting game that stays true to Star Trek's roots and accurately incorporates elements from each series."
