The standalone version of DayZ has sold over 2 million copies on Steam in just over four months on the market, according to an update creator Dean Hall published on Twitter today. Despite being an Early Access game that prominently advertises its unfinished state, DayZ has consistently remained among the top ten highest-selling games on Steam since its release last December. The game famously sold over 142,000 copies in its first day of sale, and went on to sell over a million copies in its first month. Hall later told Gamasutra that the unexpected success of DayZ should be viewed as "shots fired" across the bow of traditional publishing. The sales numbers he revealed today suggest that DayZ continues to sell at a healthy rate, implying that its initial success was not a fluke.
