Widely-reported 'PS4 Slim' to debut this month as the new, $300 PS4

Sony confirmed at a PlayStation press event in New York today that it's releasing a newer, slimmer model of the PlayStation 4 on September 15th (in most markets) for $300.

This is chiefly notable because it confirms the many, many reports (and even some reviews and teardowns) of a "PlayStation 4 Slim" console that Sony was planning to release this year.

Alongside the news, PlayStation chief Andrew House confirmed that Sony has shipped over 40 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide since the console launched in late 2013.
