Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege passes 25 million players

Roughly 2 years after its initial launch, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has surpassed 25 million players.

Roughly 2 years after its initial launch, Ubisoft says that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has surpassed 25 million players.

While it is worth noting that this is 25 million registered player rather than 25 million copies sold, the statistic alone is still notable when considering how well both back-catalog sales and 'player recurring investment' have done for the company as of late.

During its mid-year fiscal check-in this past November, Ubisoft noted that 'player recurring investment' (or the sale of in-game items, DLC, season passes, and subscriptions) had brought in more revenue for the company than digital game sales alone for the first time in the company's history, thanks to an 83 percent year-over-year increase.

In a recent statement, Rainbow Six Siege brand director Alexandre Remy said that those very same in-game transactions have been key to the continued growth of Siege.

“Player investment has been core to the success of the game with longevity being always very important to us. As the game progressed, we continued to develop it with the community in mind,” said Remy. “We’re thrilled to see that the community has embraced the game, brought along their friends, and really pushed our understanding of what’s possible with what we’ve created.”

Additionally, this also marks roughly a 15 million jump in players in one year's time, according to comments made by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot last November that put Rainbow Six Siege at "more than 10 million registered players." At the time, Guillemot said the success of Rainbow Six Siege reflected the company's ongoing goal of "creating powerful franchises that offer long-term visibility," something that has seemingly continued to pay off for Ubisoft.
