Sony today announced that its PlayStation 4 console has sold 6 million units worldwide, following the launch of the device in Japan last month. The company said that the PS4 sold 370,000 units in its opening weekend in Japan -- notably more than Famitsu originally reported -- and this launch has helped to bump the total sales figures over 6 million. Since the PS4 had sold 5.3 million units before then, this means that the PS4 has sold an additional 330,000 units in regions outside of Japan in the last several weeks. If you compare that figure to the 1.1 million units sold in the six weeks prior, it's clear that PS4 sales are finally slowing down after a rather successful launch and holiday period -- yet are still remaining relatively strong. Notably, this means that the PS4 has now surpassed the latest figures given by Nintendo for total Wii U sales (the Wii U currently sits at 5.86 million units sold as of December 31, 2013.)
