On the weekend of July 29 and July 30, 2006, the City of Boston will host SIGGRAPH 06, an annual conference and exposition for computer graphics and interactive technology professionals, showcasing innovations in research, science, art, animation, gaming, interactive media, education, and the Internet. Northeastern University, located in Boston, Massachusetts, will be present at the event, featuring digital artwork and writing from faculty members. In addition, the university will have a booth at the event showcasing a new graduate program in digital media. Presentations: Northeastern Associate Professor of Graphic Design Isabel Meirelles will present a paper at this year's conference titled, "A Framework for Teaching Fundamentals in Time-Based Design," which explores a dynamic visual language utilized in the creative process of image-making. Works on Display: SIGGRAPH will display two creative pieces from Northeastern professor Dennis Miller: an animated film titled "Reflect," and a digital print titled "Introspection." These pieces employ time-based design, an artistic approach likened to musical composition in a visual format. Interactive Contest: Northeastern will co-sponsor a treasure hunt titled "Play Boston" with the Boston Globe, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, and Metaversal Studios. This contest will utilize several themes from the university's digital media program to create a fun, interactive challenge for SIGGRAPH participants. Booth: Northeastern's booth will feature information about its new graduate degree. The Master of Professional Studies in Digital Media offers a full curriculum in visual arts and technology, including courses in animation, digital storytelling, podcasting, and game design. Visual arts and technology classes are complemented by a unique focus on the business side of the digital media industry, including courses in entrepreneurship, industry trends, and convergence creation.
