The Nintendo 3DS once again topped the weekly Japanese hardware sales charts, while sales of the recently-launched PS Vita continued to decline. For the weekend ended January 1, 2012, the numbers from tracking firm Media Create, as translated by NeoGAF, shows that the 3DS sold 197,952 units last week -- down from the 482,200 units sold in the previous week, as you'd expect, given that was the week leading up to Christmas Day. Sony's Vita climbed the charts from position five to four, although its hardware sales dropped to 42,648 units from 72,479 units in the previous week. However, Sony held three places in the top four, with the PlayStation 3 at number two with 67,199 sales, and the PSP at number three with a total of 62,746 units sold. After the Wii's success in the previous week, it dropped down from position three to five, with 33,208 units sold. Down at the bottom, the Xbox 360 sold 2,453 units, while Nintendo's DS Lite scraped by with 28 units sold. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended January 1, 2012. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
