At Gamescom in Cologne, Germany on Tuesday, Ray Muzyka, co-founder at Electronic Arts-owned BioWare, announced the free-to-play Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes for PC. The game is the newest entry in EA's "Play4Free" portfolio, which includes microtransaction-supported titles like Need for Speed World, Dragon Age Legends and Battlefield Play4Free. The fantasy-themed Wrath of Heroes is currently in development at BioWare Mythic in a partnership with Games Workshop, owner of the Warhammer franchise. The game is a six vs. six vs. six online PvP game due this fall, with the beta opening today. Muzyka did not reveal specifics of the title's business model. The game's website said Wrath of Heroes has "fast paced mmo style combat within multiple thematic environments." BioWare Mythic is also the developer of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, a subscription-based MMO that originally launched in 2008.
