Early Access battle royale title Playerunknown's Battlegrounds has now sold over 8 million copies on Steam.

The news comes straight from developer-pubisher Bluehole, which will soon be bringing the game to Xbox One with the help of Microsoft.

The last-man-standing shooter launched on Steam Early Access in March, and has ballooned in popularity over the past five months.

It recently claimed the Steam record for the most concurrent players in a non-Valve game when 481,291 users sat down to play on July 30.

The game will make its way to the Xbox One as part of the Xbox Game Preview program later this year, with a final version expected to launch on the console at the start of 2018.

Bluehole still expects the Steam version to exit Early Access before the end of 2017.
