In a move that has been widely predicted for some time, Warren Spector has announced he is to leave developer Ion Storm in order to "pursue personal interests outside the company". Spector will still remain as an intellectual property consultant for Eidos, the current owners of Ion Storm, possibly to give his advice on the new Tomb Raider sequel being worked on by Crystal Dynamics, although this specific role is unconfirmed. Despite speculation that Spector will head Midway’s new Austin, Texas based studio, no announcement has been made as to his future plans, and the man himself has been unavailable for any press comments. Spector is particularly known for having worked on classic titles such as Wing Commander, Ultima Underworld, System Shock, Thief, and creating the Deus Ex franchise, although in recent times, compromises for the PC/console hybrid sequels to Deus Ex and Thief disappointed both hardcore fans and some critics alike.
