Sega's PlayStation 3 game Yakuza 4 (Ryū ga Gotoku 4: Densetsu wo Tsugumono in Japan) debuted in Japan during the week ended March 21, topping charts with 384,000 units sold, tracking firm Media Create said Thursday. The game, whose story revolves around Japanese organized crime, reached the sales figure following its release on March 18. The original Yakuza released in Japan in 2005 for PlayStation 2, followed by Yakuza 2 the next year. The third and fourth iterations were exclusively developed for PlayStation 3. While Yakuza 4 debuted last week in Japan, Western audiences just saw the launch of Yakuza 3 this month. In a distant second, but with strong debut sales nonetheless, was Namco Bandai's PlayStation Portable game Gundam: Assault Survive, which moved 91,000 units in its opening week at Japanese retail. Games dropping off of Media Create's weekly top 10 list from last week were Nippon Ichi Software's PSP game Zettai Hero: Modification Plan, the PlayStation 3 version of Electronic Arts' Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Enterbrain's RPG Maker DS. Below is Media Create's top 10 unit sales chart for Japan for the week ended March 21.
