German-headquartered 3D game engine firm Trinigy has announced that it has joined Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s Tools & Middleware program for PlayStation 3 development. As such, game developers working on projects for the newly launched PlayStation 3 now have access to Trinigy’s Vision Game Engine for use with their projects. The Vision Game Engine has already been employed by companies such as Atari, Take Two, NeoWiz, and Threewave in game development. In addition, according to Trinigy, more than 60 titles globally have been built using the engine, covering an array of genres such as first-person shooters, role-playing games, and massively multiplayer online games. The newest version of Trinigy’s engine was recently shown at this year’s Games Convention in Leipzig/Germany. Based on next-generation DirectX technology, version 6 of the Vision Game Engine includes new rendering capabilities, support for high end graphical features, and emphasizes a philosophy of WYSIWYG game development. “We are proud to support PlayStation 3 as an approved middleware provider“, commented Triniy's managing partner Dag Frommhold. “The impressive potential of the PlayStation 3 offers undreamed-of possibilities, which games based on forthcoming Vision Engine versions can utilize to its full extent.”
