Today's round-up includes a load of PS2s, a motherlode of Resident Evil goods, and a payload for Codemasters. - The number of PlayStation 2s sold worldwide since the system's launch has hit 90 million, Sony reported. The system reached the 90 million mark in just over five years since its Japanese debut in March 2000, with American and European launches coming in October and November of the same year. The PS2 took two years less than the PSone to hit 90 million, assisted by 16.7 million sales of the redesigned slim unit, launched in late 2004. Sony hopes to achieve a 10-year overall lifespan for the system, as demonstrated in its presentation at E3 2004. - Capcom has announced a Japanese-style limited edition of the upcoming PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 for the American market. Available only through Capcom's website, players can preorder the Collector's Pack of the game, which includes Resident Evil 4, a t-shirt, a Leon Kennedy figurine, and a six-disc collection of music from the series. The Collector's Pack goes for $119.99, while a cheaper Premium Edition available only through GameStop for $49.99 contains the game, a making-of DVD, art book, and art cel of Ada Wong. - UK-based Codemasters, publisher of Second Sight and Colin McRae Rally 05, has been slapped with a fine for illegal sewage dumping. Faced with charges from the British Environment Agency, the company pleaded guilty to exceeding the legal limit to how much effluent could be offloaded into the river. "In this case, despite our efforts to advise and assist the company, there were repeated breaches of consent limits which were wholly unacceptable," said BEA officer Hannah Woolridge. The company will pay 25,000 pounds ($46,049 USD) for the violation.
