Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
The Independent Games Festival has announced that beginning this year, an additional $5,000 will be added to the $10,000 purse for the Seumas McNally Award for Independent Game of the Year,
raising the total amount of the prize to $15,000. The additional funds will come from the Seumas McNally Memorial Fund, created in honor of the lead programmer of Longbow Digital Arts, the team that won the IGF's grand prize in 2000. The IGF Grand Prize was posthumously named in honor of Seumas McNally, after his death of Hodgkin's Lymphoma shortly after the festival in 2000. "We still hear from programmers who knew Seumas during the short time that he was active in the game development community," said Jim McNally, Seumas's father. "His ideas and enthusiasm, comments and encouragement are sorely missed. Seumas loved to explore and push on the boundaries of knowledge. He had an inquiring mind and pursued ideas with a cooperative attitude that continues to influence. We hope that adding this prize to the Seumas McNally Grand Prize will further encourage and reward the pursuit of excellence in programming." Donations to the Seumas McNally Memorial Fund can be made out to "Longbow Digital Arts Incorporated" with a notation on the check "for the Seumas McNally Memorial Fund" and sent to: Longbow Digital Arts 4 Mary Jane Street Providence Bay Ontario, P0P 1T0 Canada More about Seumas McNally can be found on his tribute page hosted by Gamedev.net. The IGF is produced by the Gama Network, which also publishes Gamasutra.
