Comic book artist and publisher Jim Lee has been announced as art director on the as yet un-named DC Comics massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from Warner Bros. Interactive and Sony Online Entertainment. He and a number of other artists from company WildStorm have been providing art designs and input on the game for the last seven months. The news was revealed at the New York City Comic-Con, with the game due to appear on next generation consoles and the PC in 2007, and being developed at Sony Online's Austin office. Comic book website Newsarama subsequently conducted an interview with Lee, in which he mentions that his admiration for Sony Online Entertainment’s EverQuest title played a significant role in him accepting the position. The team of artists has been providing artwork not just for major characters, but also all in-game environments and objects – a significant workload for the art studio, and the largest ever artistic involvement of comic book artists in a major video game release. Lee describes the game itself, of which nothing has been seen or heard since its initial announcement, as featuring all the heroes and villains of the DC universe, allowing players to team-up with named characters as well as fellow users. He also hinted that events in the game could impact regular comic book tittles, in a similar manner to the City of Heroes books derived from the popular NCsoft MMORPG.
