After reports yesterday that the PlayStation 3 was confirmed as appearing at the 2005 E3 Expo, in playable form, Sony officials have announced that the console’s first public showing will in fact be later this year. Speaking at the PlayStation Meeting 2004 event in Tokyo, Sony representatives revealed a timeline graph that appeared to call for the system to be unveiled this year, around the time of the PlayStation 2’s fifth anniversary. With development kits not due to go out to developers until the start of 2005 any unveiling this year would presumably only be in the form of technical demos and possibly the console hardware itself.
