Edutainment software company CompassLearning announced a partnership with education publisher Learning Through Sports. As part of the alliance, CompassLearning will re-sell STAR Sportsmanship, Learning Through Sports' web-based, role-playing program that teaches behavioral skills for school, sports and life and enhances students' decision-making skills. This product teaches sportsmanship in an electronic format. The program is available in four versions: Elementary (3-5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12) and Coaches and Parents. STAR Sportsmanship also combines online activities in the form of role-playing video games and offline activities to motivate and educate; focuses on four key topics: teamwork, discipline, respect and choices; enables students to learn through viewing real life situations, choosing a reaction to a given choice and seeing the consequences of that choice; includes pre- and post-tests as well as reporting capabilities so teachers can monitor progress; and offers program access from school, home, or from an after-school program. "The education market is ripe for quality software alternatives to reach at-risk populations. Our sole mission is to motivate students to succeed through state-of-the-art 3D video game-based programs that are integrated with standards-based content," said Brian Shulman, CEO, Learning Through Sports. "We are pleased to partner with CompassLearning based on our shared philosophy of utilizing cutting-edge methods to engage students and help them prepare for high-stakes testing." "CompassLearning is dedicated to relieving 'edu-stress,' the anxiety that plagues educators, parents and students who are trying to succeed in today's high-stakes education environment," said Ann Henson, Vice President, Curriculum and Instruction, CompassLearning. "Research shows that combining athletics with academics is effective in motivating students to learn so we are delighted to be working with Learning Through Sports to advance their mission."
