Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV took home the Game of the Year award at Spike TV’s sixth annual Video Game Awards (VGA). The televised ceremony was held over the weekend, and was hosted by comedian and actor Jack Black. Other notable winners included two awards for LittleBigPlanet and developer Media Molecule (Best PS3 game and Studio of the Year), as well as titles ranging from World of Goo (Best Independent Game) to Metal Gear Solid 4 (Best Performance by a Human Female, Best Original Score and Best Graphics) and Gears Of War 2 (Best Xbox 360 Game and Best Shooter). This year’s event was also notable for the large number of new trailers debuting for upcoming games, in some cases giving audiences detail for the first time. Games spotlighted at the awards include Double Fine's Brütal Legend, just revealed to be published by Electronic Arts, Sony’s Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves and God of War III, EA Sports' Fight Night: Round 4, Take-Two’s Mafia II and Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned, Warner Bros.’ Watchmen: The End is Nigh and movie tie-in Terminator Salvation. New Gears of War 2 map pack "Combustible" was also released at 12pm PST, after the new Xbox 360 download was announced at the Awards by model Marisa Miller. The new addition to the game features three new multiplayer maps: Flood, Gold Rush and Fuel Station.
