UCSD Extension Digital Arts Center Computer Game Design Program
Students’ Game Projects Exceed Everyone’s Expectations!
These students joined our Casual Gaming program just six months ago. With classes meeting just two nights a week, it is truly remarkable to see how far our students have come in such short period of time. Without any previous game design experience, (they join the computer game design program with a background in art or programming) they were able to create an array of games individually and in team setting. The games are designed to be transparent across multiple platforms including web, Apple and Windows based PCs.
The Digital Arts Center students presented several prototypes of casual games featuring clever game play, technical innovation, and variety of fun art styles.
Several of these game prototypes are available for your enjoyment at UCSD Extension Digital Arts Center website at http://dac.ucsd.edu/index.cfm?vAction=casual-gaming Please scroll to the bottom of the page to see the games.
Here are the creators featured from last week’s projects
- Space Cat – by Team Smakd (Kevin Johnson, Michael Albano, Dylan Heaslett and Shane Kittelson)
- Rocket Express – by Team LevelUp Boss (Gary Tse, David Diaz and Chris Vaughn)
- Vegan Adventures – by Gary Tse
- Barbarian MAC – by Michael Albano
Looking forward, we are expecting continuing growth from our students in all areas of casual game development. During the next six months they will be expanding their casual game design, art and programming skills into the realm of mobile devices. Students will be targeting game development on iOS including iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, and possibly an Android based devices while creating prototypes of their own unique casual games.
Stay tuned for future updates…
