Level Design - additional skills?

For level designers, would expanding scripting and programming skills or art asset creation skills be more desirable in the marketplace?

I am exploring different specializations in game development and would like to gather some opinions. When it comes to level design, there seems to be a general concensus on the core skills required to excel: understanding of overall game design, excellent visualiazation skills with good spatial and layout design skills, a good sense of aesthetics and a solid skill set with UE4/Unity/other map design and editing tools.

What I am curious about are opinions on what additional skills would be most valuable to a prospective employer. Would solid skills with Maya, Mudbox, Substance, PS, etc to create art assets be more valuable than extensive coding or scripting skills? Basic ability with both sets of skills are a given for someone seeking a design position.

Given that they both possess the desired soft skills and presented solid portfolios, if you had to choose between two candidates of equal design skill, one who was a skilled digital artist and one who was a skilled coder, who would you choose?

Thanks for any input. I really appreciate it.

Chris
