Blendo Games'
Quadrilateral Cowboy took the Grand Jury Prize at this year's IndieCade in Los Angeles, where it was praised for its innovative design, quirkiness and incorporation of realistically implemented hacking techniques.
Blendo's Brendon Chung, formerly of Pandemic Studios, made a name for himself with idiosyncratic puzzle games such as
Flotilla and
Gravity Bone. His 2012
Thirty Flights of Loving brought his style to the masses through Steam.
Speaking this past weekend at IndieCade, Chung said he drew considerable influence from his own family life and upbringing to strike a note of difference from mainstream games. In this respect, it's obvious that
Quadrilateral Cowboy represents Chung's latest attempt to create singular playing experiences.
"If games are too stale and unoriginal, head back to your own personal experiences," Chung said to attendees.
