We are the K Team, six happy buddies together to give the best of ourselves in our last year as students. Half-time residents at our school Isart Digital, we’ve been working hard on our project: “Pimp My Cube" to be able to say once it’s done: “we gave it our all”. But this is still far away, and we still have a long way to go before we’ll be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Through this blog we want to show you the different steps that go into the creation of our videogame. You will then be able to comment on the project’s evolution and give us precious advice.

Our intent is to make a videogame with pure gameplay. Why make things complicated when they can be simple? And what is simpler than a cube?

What is Pimp My Cube?

In a futuristic city, a messenger moves along inside a cube with different properties.

He accomplishes missions on behalf of the mafias that control the different areas. He will have to get past all the obstacles and enigmas in his way in order to fulfill his task.

Pimp My Cube is a platform/puzzle game from a high up perspective (similar to management and strategy games).

The levels are laid out like a huge chess board, where the player moves from square to square.

How do you play?

With an Xbox controller.

The properties of the crate that the player controls are as follows:

The players moves on two types of squares:

The colorless ones for which he uses the controller’s Left Pad button.

The colored ones for which he uses the matching colored buttons on the Xbox controller. For example he would use the green “A” button to move onto a green square.

The player climbs onto squares on the wall. Watch out, he can only hold on a short while.

With the Left Trigger, he grabs objects from the scenery and brings them with him to clear a path for himself, or to use it as a shield…

You find all along the levels, different scenarios that alternate action and deliberation:

For example, there is a laser fixed in the middle of a path of 4 squares in a straight line. The player will have to avoid it by passing walls with the help of a combination of colors. He must therefore avoid traps, falls, and enemies to succeed in his mission.

Pimp My Cube Jennifer

Jennifer, graphic designer

She brings a touch of femininity to the team. A little shy in the beginning, she finishes everything she starts and is an expert on a number of obscure internet shows.

Pimp My Cube Akaihana

Akaihana, project leader (you know, the boss!)

His is the difficult task of finalizing all of our projects. I am the voice of the blog, let you know about our progress and try to convey and share our passion. ???

Pimp My Cube Kevin

Kevin, our lead programmer and the initiator of the project

He came up with the concept. Calm and composed, Kevin stays an animal when it comes to programming. He always comes up with a question or an argument when we’re talking code. He raises his hand and says: “what if?”

Alan, the team’s old guy

The head of documents, he’s played almost everything ever created for a console. Sometimes we think he’s speaking a different language: “Seriously, you’ve never played Megaman 1 on NES?!” “Sorry Alan, we were busy playing in the sand box at the time…”

Pimp My Cube Axel

Nax, shadow man

He heads sound design, and is always around but never seen. He is the instrument of my revenge when things turn out badly, with his plastic's rule !

Pimp My Cube Julien

Julien, graphic designer

He loves pulling all-nighters (which is a good thing with all the work I give him). He is a stylus expert, as precise as Zorro with his sword, and as fast as the Sun Dance kid with a gun. He’s the man to supply us with the best visuals for the game!
