Valve rolls out Steam Trading Cards
Participants in the new Steam Trading Cards beta will receive special virtual cards themed after the games they play. Cards can be collected to craft badges and earn coupons, among other features.
Two things may be said to define Valve's Steam platform. One: it has become the go-to digital distribution platform for PC game aficionados. Two: Collectibles. Lots and lots of collectibles. Mostly hats, of course. But also achievements, coupons, and now... virtual trading cards. Participants in the new Steam Trading Cards beta will receive special virtual cards themed after their games. Cards can be collected to craft badges, advance the player's Steam Level, and earn coupons, among other principally cosmetic features. Several games are currently offering cards. Naturally, prominent titles from Valve's own catalog are participating, including Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Apart from Valve's titles, Klei Entertainment's survival roguelike Don't Starve is involved in the trading card beta as well.
