Ukrainian Game Devs in Cologne, or How BidOn Games Went to Gamescom 2014

5 days of impressions and emotions at Gamescom 2014 were nearly too much for us to focus on the actual goal of our trip - exhibiting at the event. Nevertheless, we did it, and the BidOn Games brand had its very first booth at a conference of that scope.

One of the most anticipated events in the game dev industry, this year’s Gamescom is now over. The 5 days of impressions and emotions were nearly too much for us to focus on the actual goal of our trip - exhibiting at the event. Nevertheless, we did it, and the BidOn Games brand had its very first booth at a conference of that scope.

Let’s face it: our humble exhibiting space couldn’t compete with the grandeur of Wargaming and other big frogs in the not-so-small game development pond, but we had our share of visitors and made lots of interesting and valuable connections. And even more than that, all the awesome stuff we saw in the entertainment area was a great deal of inspiration to move towards something as great as the most exciting games at Gamescom 2014.

All in all, what was it like? You already know the answer. Legendary is the word. See for yourself.

We arrived a few days earlier to get the booth ready and started with a walk around Cologne, which didn’t look all that friendly without any sunshine.

We had fun anyway, and met a pretty unique street musician, who was playing waterpipes and had just come back from Ibiza. How much can you possibly make playing waterpipes to afford going to Ibiza? Perhaps a game dev studio was not the best investment after all.

The next several days were busy.

We had a sneak peek at Samsung preparing their exhibiting space. This beautiful monstrosity of a truck served both as an actual truck and a mobile office for the staff.

When Gamescom started, the business area was buzzing with people and we had meetings with potential partners all the time.

When we headed for the entertainment zone, though, we realized the business area was deserted in comparison. THESE are only people in the corridor, waiting to get to the entertainment area.

All the people sitting here are waiting for their turn to play the new games presented.

Wargaming’s was another most noticeable booth at the event.

Gamescom was an unforgettable experience, and thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth and met us! Hope to see you all next year.
