Sony drops price on PlayStation Vita to $199 US

At Sony's Gamescom press conference, the company announced a strong independent game portfolio for its lineup of platforms, as well as a much-anticipated price drop for the PlayStation Vita.

At Sony's Gamescom press conference in Cologne, Germany, the company announced a strong independent game portfolio for its lineup of platforms, as well as a much-anticipated price drop for the PlayStation Vita. Sony announced that it was dropping the price of the PlayStation Vita to $199 US and €199 for Europe, down from $249 and €249. It also announced "significant reductions" to the prices for Sony-branded Vita memory cards. Also part of Sony's Vita presentation was a robust roster of independent titles due out by 2014, including Polytron's Fez and Ovosonico's Murasaki Baby. Further in the press conference, Sony also confirmed the upcoming 12GB PlayStation 3, retailing at $199 US and €199.
