Production of UAT Game Studio: Ascendance (Part 6)

More updates for Ascendance and the producers adventure.

Website Update:

The team was able to get another alpha version build ready this week, so I was able to update the download link on the Ascendance webpage.  A new and improved banner was also created this week by the team lead and replaced the old banner on the website.  Please download and try out the latest additions to the game.

Social Media Update:

A new logo was generated by co-producer Samy this week, which looks really cool.  This new logo was added to the Ascendance Facebook and Twitter accounts.  Check out the new logo and let us know what you think and don’t forget to like and follow to get the latest updates.

Weekly Readings:

This week’s readings were chapters 14 and 15 of Gamers at Work: Stories Behind the Games People by Morgan Ramsay.  Tobi Saulnier, founder of 1st Playable Productions, and Christopher Weaver, Founder of Bethesda Softworks, discuss their experiences in the game industry.  I found it interesting that Tobi Saulnier wanted to keep her company small, less than 50 people, to create a mission focused team and to avoid the need for systems, process, and infrastructure.  It was also interesting hearing about how here past with large companies played into the creation of her company.

Personal Experiences:

Over the past week or so I have started to think that maybe two producers for this game is one too many.  With my co-producer having a background in digital art he is able to create far better content for the website and social media than I am.  I have been noticing that most of the other producers in my class are also doing art related things to contribute to their teams.  I was planning to help out more this week, by capturing gameplay footage for a presentation, but was finding that my machine was having issues with the game.  So yet again I had to pass the recording over to the other producer to both record the gameplay and cut the final product.  I really hate that I have been so unhelpful this last week and I do not see next week being any better.

Maybe two producers for this game would work if I was better a digital art or at marketing.  It could just be that my background in embedder programming is not very useful for game production, at least from a marketing and art side.  I really hope that I can find my fit into the game production process soon, I just feel so out of place as a producer.
