Charles Boyd, the creative director of BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic, has departed from the company. BioWare's executive producer Keith Kanneg made the announcement on Monday with an update blog for Old Republic, which turned 10 years old in December 2021. Boyd had been with the company for 16 years, and helped Old Republic's development from the beginning.

"I still can't fully believe how lucky I've been to work on The Old Republic," wrote Boyd in the BioWare Blog. "Getting to play a role in SWTOR’s growth from its initial vision to a colossal release and then an incredible live service for over a decade has been an amazing experience."

Earlier this year, BioWare launched The Old Republic's its seventh expansion, Legacy of the Sith, and a future content update is arriving on August 2. BioWare reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the MMORPG going, even as the studio is actively developing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and the next Mass Effect game.

A new creative director to fill Boyd's position has yet to be named. In the meantime, staff members of Old Republic have been promoted to become a part of the Design Leadership team. Promotions include Ashley Ruhl, who served as the cinematic lead for Legacy, and has become the game's narrative director, 10-year veteran Eric Musco is now serving as lead producer, and Caitlin Sullivan Kelly is now lead writer.

According to Kanneg, Kelly is said to be continuing the stories of players' personal stories with the game, "with all of the new stories, characters, romances, betrayals, and impactful choices SWTOR is known for."

Though Legacy came out in February, Kanneg assured that Star Wars: The Old Republic continues to have a future, one that will be revealed "soon."
