PathEngine is releasing an updated version of its pathfinding and agent movement SDK, making "very significant optimizations" to the preprocess save and load mechanisms. Specifically, the company says, the improvements include major reductions in preprocess file sizes, and decreased save and load times -- particularly for preprocess on meshes with lots of detail obstacles and high visibility. PathEngine says it's also sped up the traditional XML loading code paths, but notes its tokenised/binary equivalent format is still best for performance-critical applications. The new version also adds an alternative setup for connected region preprocess that aims to reduce the total preprocess footprint, along with an option to automatically remove small, disconnected regions in pathfinding unobstructed space. The company also says it's made some bug fixes, refactored some of the internal source code and reduced the SDK's total executable code footprint. The company's also added new licensees Lionhead, Skyfallen Entertainment, Colourblind Entertainment, SK Imedia, Goorm Interactive, Ntreev Soft, Playbuster and Pseudoware.
