Climax Studios announced today it will be using Mixamo's animation middleware for an as-yet-unnamed 2011 game project. Mixamo's library of hundreds of customizable canned 3D animations allows developers to apply stock movements to their characters models quickly and easily. Earlier this year, the company announced support for Blender 3D models as well as the DAZ Studio modeling program "Mixamo has established itself in the game industry as a powerful animation resource for AAA game studios like Climax to help them leverage their art production efforts more efficiently," says Mixamo Co-founder and CEO, Nazim Kareemi. "All game developers look for ways to accomplish more creatively and stylistically without compromising their budgets. Mixamo provides several groundbreaking technologies that allow these studios to do just that for their 3D animation efforts." Founded in 1997, Portsmouth-based Climax Studios most recently developed the downloadable Rocket Knight Adventures revamp on PSN and Xbox Live Arcade. The company is perhaps best known for its ATV Offroad Fury series. "Mixamo represents an exciting addition to 3D animation in the game industry, one where studios are able to make the best use of their art production resources within increasingly constrained budgets," said Climax CEO Simon Gardner. "We will take full advantage of Mixamo's online motion customization and retargeting features to maximize the quality of animation content that we will feature in our upcoming project."
