Microsoft has tapped Marvel's Avengers and Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics to co-develop its Perfect Dark reboot.

The Xbox maker had initially tasked its first-party studio, The Initiative, with resurrecting the franchise, and has now brought Crystal Dynamics into the fold.

According to a tweet from The Initiative, the two studios will be working in tandem to "bring this first-person spy thriller to a new generation."

"The teams couldn’t pass up a chance to work together," continued the studio. "We're still early in development, but incredibly excited to use this unique opportunity to deliver on the vision for Perfect Dark."

The Initiative was formed in 2018 as Microsoft sought to expand its roster of internal studios. The Santa Monica-based outfit quickly recruited industry veterans from Rockstar, Santa Monica Studio, and Crystal Dynamics in a bid to expand, and was revealed as the developer behind the Perfect Dark reboot in 2020.
